Making the Mind An Instrument of Wellness
Most of the times, the mind is simply reminding us all of the ways in which we are falling behind or not doing well. If it is not doing this, then it is busy taking us into pleasant and unpleasant memories of the past or fantasies of the future. Shall I tell you what happens when we are fixating on all these things that are not working out? We create a lot of unhappiness and lack of wellness within us. We are agitated and always on the edge. We never feel that what we have done is enough or what we are doing is enough. Isn’t it tiresome to live in this way? Wouldn’t we rather try another route?
Undoubtedly, the mind is very powerful. It is a sharp instrument. Just as you can use a sharp knife to cut open a coconut and enjoy the fresh waters. The very same knife can cut into skin and cause harm. So, it is high time that we use the minds ability to create wellness instead of illness.
If you fix your mind on all the ways in which you are doing good, in the ways that your life is of service to the world and on what is special about the day that you have been given or the wonderful people that you are surrounded with, then it will create peace within you. This can also be done by using it to learn new things that enrich your life or to follow a vision, something unique to you, without falling into the trap of comparing yourself to anyone else.
In case, all of these fail and you are not able to control the movements of the mind, then fix the mind on God. Attach your mind to God instead, and realise that you are loved by that God completely. Whether your mind is at peace or not at peace, God’s love for you is unwavering. You can rest in that love and find your peace again. This is how your mind will support you and keep reaping the gift of peace in your Life.
